INVESTMENT THESIS & MISSION
Evolutesix is committed to building an economy that works for all by promoting systemic, self-reinforcing changes in governance and operations and investment. We partner with companies that share our passion for this mission. Our investments and partnerships are into ecosystems of companies, and complete circles of circular companies. This ‘ergodic ecosystem’ investment thesis significantly reduces a key cause of business failures and negative externalities, especially for purpose-driven companies. Our investments are targeted towards companies that are governed by stewards and multiple stakeholders, and are a commons of productive capacity, run using fluid organization design and deliberately developmental practices, and follow our ‘ergodic ecosystem’ strategy to minimize exposure to risks and uncertainty. Our investments are targeted towards companies and founders committed to creating or transforming their businesses to be ergodic ecosystem ready. We look for founders who prioritize purpose over profits, and businesses where stakeholder-relationships and stewarded commoning provides a competitive edge. As an early advocate for stewarding and commoning businesses, Evolutesix supports these companies in their transformation journey, providing responsive, non-extractive capital that separates money and power.
Conventional VC is often at odds with purpose-driven entrepreneurs intending to tackle our biggest challenges, and who target far more than growth for growth’s sake. They want to build lasting, systemically impactful businesses that can evolve and preserve their mission free from artificial time constraints. Our goal is to enable such founders and investors to align their values and mission with their incorporation and financing structures in order to harness business more powerfully as a solution to our global challenges.
We invest in people who take seriously the meaning of their company as a person; that it is part of an ecosystem of partner companies, in a collaborating-competing relationship maximizing collectively regenerative outcomes. Our founders want to help build an economy that is fit for life as a whole, and understand their businesses as part of the solution. Because all our companies work closely with each other in a collaborative-competitive ecosystem we seek companies willing to do the inner and outer work needed to step beyond limiting beliefs.
THE ROLE OF STEWARD-OWNERSHIP IN OUR INVESTMENT WORK
Evolutesix supports companies that are already FairShares Commons incorporated, or participating in our accelerator / transformation programme leading to such incorporation. The FairShares Commons gives significant, sometimes all, governance to stewards, and adopts principles of stewardship derived from the latest learnings on high performing commons. These principles are legally binding on the stewards. We work closely with the founder teams to develop terms that support the ecosystem as a whole, the business itself, and meet our needs as investors. Existing ecosystem members have a say in accepting new investees into the ecosystem(s).
All of our investments are evergreen towards each company, with LP liquidity coming from their ability to sell their shares in the Evolutesix holding company, rather than Evolutsix exiting from investees. We do not have a set return expectation or hurdle rate on our investments. We primarily invest in non-voting equity, and are also open to revenue/royalty options.
