I focus on startups that have the potential to drive change in social and ecological issues. My primary interest lies in understanding the founders—their motivations, mindset, and the vision that propels their business forward. I'm not a KPI-driven investor; I believe that founders have the best understanding of their own businesses. Since I believe that change starts with oneself and then extends to the immediate surroundings, I prioritize German startups. However, it's also crucial to me that the people running these companies possess a deep awareness of the global impact their business has, both near and far.
THE ROLE OF STEWARD-OWNERSHIP IN MY INVESTMENT WORK
For me, steward-ownership is the best way to keep motivations out of a business that focus solely on turning a lot of money into even more money. Within our existing economic system, we can rethink what the real purpose of companies should be.
Any kind of shareholder value principle prevents us from asking the right questions about what is good, healthy, and sustainable for the environment, our society, and the people living in it. I am convinced that a growing number of companies adopting steward-ownership has the greatest potential to truly make a difference and drive forward change.
